Samulnori Rhythm in Lines is a motion graphic work that reinterprets Korea’s traditional four-instrument performance through minimalist line animation. Rather than depicting performers or instruments, the piece focuses on rhythm itself—its movement, flow, and emotional resonance.
Each line mirrors a beat; every pause becomes a breath. The animation translates the structure of traditional rhythm into visual pacing—sharp bursts for intense moments, soft transitions for contemplative calm. Sound and image are precisely synchronized, creating a sensory experience where viewers don’t just observe the rhythm—they feel it.
This project explores how heritage can be reimagined through modern motion design. By stripping the visuals down to pure movement—monochrome lines, pulses, gaps—the work avoids narration and instead communicates the spirit of Samulnori in an intuitive, emotionally direct way. It is both a tribute to tradition and a step toward redefining how cultural performance can be experienced in the digital age.
The piece was met with enthusiastic responses during exhibition, sparking curiosity among audiences and demonstrating how visual rhythm can connect traditional music with contemporary expression across sensory boundaries.
